CHINA AND EUROPE - Partners in the New Global Energy Community

Together with the European Climate Forum (ECF), the Institut du Development Durable (IDDRI) and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact (PIK) the Heinrich Boell Foundation organized an international roundtable on global energy policies. Under the heading "China and Europe - Partners in the New Global Energy Community" Heinrich Boell Foundation tries to provide a high-level forum for leading policy makers and stakeholders from China and the European countries to consider common interests and opportunities in the energy domain. The forum was held in Beijing at November 16/17 2005.

 

MOBILE EDUCATION

Mobile environmental education originally is an idea of the German NGO Save our Future (SOF). It is based on the idea that a vehicle equipped with personnel and information material can better reach rural parts of the country and provide environmental education to these areas as well. It has proved successful in China as well and has been carried out by the Chinese NGO Friends of Nature together with SOF.

 

PREMA GREEN SCHOOLS  

The PREMA model aims at increasing the efficiency of energy use and is based on a strategy of German GTZ developed for enterprises. Since schools face many similar problems concerning waste of energy, the model has been modiefied and is now being applied for schools all over the country.

 

GREEN LIBRARY

The library of CESDRRC contains numerous books in Chinese and other languages on various environmental issues. It is located in the Beijing office building of SEPA and partly sponsored by the Heinrich Boell Foundation in order to provide necessary background information for environmental work in China. The library is free of charge.

 

RENEWABLE ENERGIES

The Renewable Energy Conference 2004 in Bonn, Germany has seen the commitment of the Chinese leadership to increase the use of renewable energies up to at least 10% by 2010. This has been widely regarded as a milestone of Chinese energy policy and is now been followed by various activities in order to reach this goal. The Heinrich Boell Foundation has not only actively taken part in the Bonn-process, but also tries to help realize its implementation. Thus it plans to contribute to the follow-up Renewable Energy Conference in Beijing in 2005, as well as to several other conferences and activities in China on the energy issue.

 

MAPLE WOMEN'S COUNSELING CENTER

The Maple Women's Psychological Counseling Center in Beijing has been supported for many years by the Heinrich Boell Foundation. It provides psychological and legal counseling for women in need, be it in person or via a telephone hotline that makes anonymous and fast help possible. Quality and scope of work has been constantly increased and the counseling model has now been adopted by the All Chinese Women Federation as well.

 

TIANJIN WOMEN'S FEDERATION

The Women's Federation has fist adopted the counseling model of Maple Women's Counseling Center and by now has sucessfiully set up six new centres in Tianjin.

 

WOMEN LEADERSHIP TRAINING

With the help of CANGO a training manual has been compiled for the systematic build up of female leadership in China. It is now being applied in Henan and Shanxi where female leaders receive capacity building and related trainings.
